Tyrone Mings sends Aston Villa message after Ally McCoist’s ‘unbelievable’ claim
Aston Villa earned a significant victory against Club Brugge in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie.
It was an end-to-end game that had drama at both the start and finish as Unai Emery’s side finished with a 3-1 victory.
Villa kickstarted the game in style as Leon Bailey found the back of the net in the third minute, but Club Brugge quickly responded with an equaliser in the 12th minute.
An own goal in the 82nd minute from Brandon Mechele put Unai Emery’s side back in front as Marco Asensio then rounded out the game with an 88th-minute penalty.

The two-goal cushion will give Villa some breathing room when the two sides meet at Villa Park for the second leg.
Winning the Champions League could be crucial for Villa’s hopes of playing in Europe next season too, given the club currently sit 10th in the Premier League table.

Tyrone Mings wowed fans with his defensive performance
Villa’s two late goals were vitally important for their hopes of progressing into the next round, but at the other end of the pitch Tyrone Mings provided one of the greatest goal-line clearances in football history.
Club Brugge appeared set to take the lead in the 68th minute after a header had beaten Emi Martinez, only for the outstretched leg of Mings to deny it as the watching Ally McCoist made “unbelievable” claim.
The England international took to Instagram to reflect on the game by saying, “Always eventful at this stadium. Proud of this evening’s work. We go again at Villa Park.”

Tyrone Mings isn’t letting injuries derail his Aston Villa career
Mings has had a difficult season due to injuries, with the centre-back picking up his latest knee problem just one month ago.
The 31-year-old has suffered several serious knee injuries throughout his career, with the first dating back to 2015 when he tore his ACL and missed 388 days of action.
Mings ended up unavailable for 446 days after reinjuring his knee for Villa in 2023, but the defender has consistently shown his quality when fit.
