Tyrone Mings shares injury update after devastating Aston Villa blow

Aston Villa defender took to Instagram to let the fans know the injury he sustained in their 1-1 Premier League draw with West Ham on Sunday (January 26) was not “serious.”

The 31-year-old left the pitch in tears and was replaced by young left-back Ian Maatsen in the 38th minute after picking up what appeared to be a knee injury.

Mings twisted his knee in a challenge with West Ham forward Mohamed Kudus before trying to run it off but was ultimately substituted by Unai Emery.

The centre-back has suffered a number of serious knee injuries, tearing his ACL for the first time while at Bournemouth back in 2015, ruling him out for 388 days, and then again in 2023 at Villa, forcing him to miss 446 days.

Jacob Ramsey opened the scoring for Villa after a clever one-two with Ollie Watkins before Emerson ensure the points were shared with a 70th-minute header.

Mings has been key for Villa since returning from his most recent ACL injury earlier in the campaign, starting 10 of his 11 games across all competitions and providing zero goal contributions in his 849 minutes of action.

The defender took to Instagram after the draw with West Ham to reassure the fans, saying: “I’ve had some serious knee injuries in my time, this isn’t one of them. Thank you for all of your messages.”

Villa’s draw with West Ham sees them climb up to eighth, just four points off current Premier League champions Man City in fourth.
