‘Tyrone Mings update emerges as deal runs down next to Aston Villa PSR time bomb’
Tyrone Mings has just one year remaining on his Aston Villa contract as the club teeter on the brink of needing to make more sales to avoid a PSR sanction.
Whilst the Villains have enjoyed another remarkably successful season under the stewardship of Unai Emery, there remains the looming spectre of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
The Midlands side were part of the merry-go-round of clubs, including the likes of Chelsea, Newcastle, Everton, and Nottingham Forest, selling players to each other to avoid their losses being too high on the balance books last year.
These deals included Douglas Luiz’s departure to Juventus, Tim Iroegbunam’s move to Everton, and Ian Maatsen’s arrival at Villa Park.
However, in spite of their busy summer last year, Villa may be forced to make another high-profile sale this summer amid an update on Mings’ future at the club, according to The Telegraph.

Tyrone Mings expected to hold talks with Aston Villa over extension
Reportedly Mings is expected to hold talks with Villa’s hierarchy over an extension, with just over a year left on his current deal, as an important member of the squad.
However, the club find themselves in uncertain territory. The Villains had a wage-to-revenue ratio of 96% in the 2023/24 season, and despite estimations that revenue will exceed £300million this season, the club are struggling to find a balance.
The threat of a PSR sanction is very real, and not the only concern for Emery‘s side. UEFA’s squad cost ratio rules will drop from 90% to 70% next season.
For man clubs, including Villa, 30 June will be a date circled in the calendar as that is the end of the Premier League’s financial year.
Last year, Luiz’s sale to Juventus on Deadline Day averted a potential PSR charge, and the club may have to do a similar deal to avoid a points deduction.
Put simply, the threat of Villa having to sell “at least one big-name player” this year before June 30 is very real, although it won’t be Morgan Rogers despite interest from Chelsea.

Aston Villa’s fate lies in the hands of Premier League rivals
Football Insider Verdict
Having given their all to try and complete the unlikeliest of Champions League victories, Villa fell short of a remarkable comeback at the hands of finalists PSG.
It was a feel-good story for the ages, but it came at the cost of their league form, with Emery’s side struggling at times to keep both their domestic and continental results in the green.
Back on track, but possibly a tad too late, Villa will face a beleaguered and battered Man United on the final day of the season.
Whilst Ruben Amorim’s side poses little threat to the Midlands side, should Man City, Chelsea, and Newcastle all emerge victorious, a win against the Red Devils will still not be enough to get the Villains into UEFA’s most prestigious competition next season.
Should Villa walk away empty-handed, the club may be forced to say farewell to some of the players who have been so intrinsic to their recent success.
