Uefa’s official response to Chelsea revealed after record-breaking transfers
Chelsea have received a major boost after Uefa has made a new transfer decision.
Uefa confirmed in July Chelsea have been fined £26.7million after breaching the governing body’s financial rules.
The punishment related to a breach of Uefa’s football earnings regulations and its squad cost ratio, where clubs in European competitions were required to keep spending on player wages and fees to 80 per cent of revenue in 2024.
Chelsea could be fined a further £51.2million if they don’t comply with the rules in the next four years.
As part of their settlement agreement, Enzo Maresca’s side were also required to have a positive transfer balance in the summer window to register their new signings for the Champions League this season.
Chelsea smash Premier League record after latest deals
Chelsea have smashed the Premier League record for player sales in a summer transfer window after sanctioning several exits over the past few weeks.
Noni Madueke joined Arsenal in the Blues’ biggest sale of the summer, having left Stamford Bridge for £52million.
Joao Felix, Christopher Nkunku, Djordje Petrovic, Lesley Ugochukwu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga, Armando Broja, Carney Chukwuemeka, Mathis Amougou, Bashir Humphreys, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Marcus Bettinelli and Alfie Gilchrist have also been sold, while Ben Chilwell and Lucas Bergstrom left on free transfers.
Elsewhere, Nicolas Jackson has joined Bayern Munich, with the Bundesliga champions paying a £14.3million loan fee and a £56.2million obligation-to-buy clause included in the deal if he plays a certain amount of games this season.
Those deals have led to the London giants bringing in £314million worth of transfer fees this summer.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have spent £296million on the signings of Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Alejandro Garnacho, Jorrel Hato, Liam Delap, Estavao, Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr and Kendry Paez, with Facundo Buonanotte joining on loan from Brighton.
Maresca submitted his squad for the Blues’ upcoming Champions League campaign on Wednesday (3 September).
The Daily Mail’s Kieran Gill reported on Thursday (4 September) Chelsea’s squad has now passed Uefa’s financial checks.
A statement from the governing body read: “The squad list submitted fulfilled the criteria of the settlement agreement and it was therefore already reviewed and approved before publication on Uefa’s website.”
Axel Disasi could agree Chelsea exit within days
In terms of another potential exit, recruitment expert Mick Brown told Football Insider Axel Disasi could complete a move away from Chelsea in the next few days.
A proposed move to Bournemouth fell through towards the end of the transfer window, while the 27-year-old is believed to have snubbed West Ham, Crystal Palace and Wolves.
However, Disasi could still join clubs in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Portugal or Mexico as those windows remain open.
