‘Unable to cope’ – Tottenham supporters respond to Rodrigo Bentancur contract news

Tottenham have made a key step towards safeguarding the future of Thomas Frank’s squad, but not all their supporters are impressed by the news.

Frank has enjoyed a strong start in the North London side’s dugout, but Spurs drew 2-2 with Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League last time out.

Tottenham have not won since their 3-0 triumph over League One Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup, but they still sit fourth in the Premier League ahead of their clash with Leeds United on Saturday, 4 October.

Meanwhile, Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Spurs are battling Liverpool to sign Brentford defender Nathan Collins.

Rodrigo Bentancur signs a new Tottenham contract

Frank’s busy summer transfer window saw Tottenham sign stars like former West Ham United winger Mohammed Kudus.

Meanwhile, on Friday, 3 October, Spurs announced via X: “We are delighted to announce that Rodrigo Bentancur has signed a new, long-term contract with the club.”

Tottenham fans have been divided in their responses to the news, with one supporter commenting: “Physically unable to cope with the rigours of Premier League football, but ultimately handy to protect his value and get some coin in the summer” whereas another said: “Happy with this. He’s recovered well from his injuries, makes very few critical errors, and allows players around him to play with more freedom due to his distance running and consistent positioning. There are certainly better players out there, but he’s a good player to have.”

One supporter added: “Yves Bissouma deserves a new deal too.”

Another fan cheered: “Happy Friday, fantastic news guys to put Bentancur down to a long-term contract. Come on.”

Contrastingly, one member of the Tottenham faithful said: “Needs to start playing better!

Rodrigo Bentancur is set for a key role as Spurs take on Leeds United

Tottenham must beat Leeds United in their next Premier League game on Saturday, 4 October, as they have not won in the top flight since their 3-0 victory over London rivals West Ham on 13 September.

Meanwhile, Leeds drew 2-2 with Bournemouth last time out, and are still searching for their second home win of the campaign.

Bentancur has been a key player for Spurs this term

Therefore, Daniel Farke’s men are likely to attack Tottenham with intensity, utilising the pace of winger Noah Okafor and the physicality of striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Frank has heavily relied on Bentancur this season, handing the defensive midfielder five appearances and four starts in the Premier League this term.

The 28-year-old is set to play a vital role against a Leeds outfit who are hungry to earn their first win at Elland Road since their 1-0 win over Everton on the top-flight’s opening weekend.

Tottenham need to establish momentum ahead of facing Aston Villa and Monaco after the international break.
