Danny Mills heaped praise on Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla despite the 2-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Whites defender shared he had no doubts that Casilla was a fabulous goalkeeper.
The 33-year-old keeper came in for criticism on Saturday for his display against the Owls and Mills opted to defend him.
The ex-Leeds defender pointed out that people were quick as well as harsh to get on Casilla’s back as goalkeepers do make mistakes from time to time, and that just has to be accepted.
When asked about Casilla receiving criticism after looking shaky against Sheffield Wednesday, Mills told Football Insider: “Yeah, he is undoubtedly a fabulous goalkeeper.
“Of course goalkeepers make mistakes, Hugo Lloris, David De Gea they all make mistakes from time to time, but when goalkeepers make mistakes, it’s very prevalent that they’ve made that mistake.
“More often than not it’s a goal, simple as that, it’s how it is, you have to accept that and deal with that.
“But yeah I do think people are a little bit quick, a little bit harsh, to jump on that bandwagon and go ‘he’s not all that and we need a replacement’ and all that type of thing.”
Casilla has played 29 times across all competitions this season, conceding 25 goals and keeping 13 clean sheets in the process.
The Spanish shot-stopper has been at Elland Road since joining Leeds in January 2019 from Real Madrid and is under contract with the club until 2023.
