‘Utter negligence’ – Tottenham fans fume at ‘insane’ Wilson Odobert announcement

Tottenham fans have blasted their board after the club confirmed that Wilson Odobert suffered a ruptured ACL against Newcastle in midweek.

It has been a hectic few days at Tottenham after a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle on Tuesday deepened their relegation fears, and manager Thomas Frank subsequently lost his job.

Goals from Malick Thiaw and Jacob Ramsey in between Archie Gray’s equaliser gave the Magpies the win in North London, as Frank was then dismissed on Wednesday morning.

The Dane handed young winger Odobert a start on the right wing in search of a win to save his job, but the French youth international was forced off through injury in the first half.

Spurs fans feared the worst for Odobert in the aftermath of the issue, and their worries have been confirmed by the club’s new announcement online.

Odobert looked to have tweaked his knee while challenging for the ball against Newcastle in the 35th minute, but he did not need the stretcher and hobbled off to be replaced by Mathys Tel.

Tottenham took to X on Thursday to confirm the extent of his problem, saying: “We can confirm that Wilson Odobert has sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Wilson will see a specialist next week before undergoing surgery, and will then commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff.

Odobert is clearly unlikely to play again this season, and becomes the 11th Spurs player currently out of action through injury.

Tottenham fans have fumed at their board following confirmation of his injury, blaming them for poor training pitches and a lack of investment in new attacking players.

One supporter took to X to write: “Speedy recovery Wilson. Shame on Lange, Vinai and the board for utter negligence in the window. Thank god we didn’t panic buy!

While another jokingly said: “Good thing we didn’t sign a winger, eh?

And one fan added: “Keep him away from our ‘medical staff’. They clearly have no clue what they’re doing.

Who are the frontrunners to replace Frank as Spurs manager?

Football Insider have revealed that Mauricio Pochettino is keen on returning to Tottenham to become their new manager, but he is not the only name in the running right now.

News outlet Sport Italia have reported that former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is in “pole position” to take the reins in North London, ahead of the likes of Pochettino and Roberto De Zerbi.

Gary Lineker has told Spurs’ chiefs to hire Maresca, but it remains to be seen if he is keen on a return to the capital just over a month on from being dismissed by their arch rivals.

Other names that are believed to be contention are the likes of Robbie Keane, John Heitinga and Oliver Glasner.
