Vaclav Cerny: O’Rourke updates on ‘£8m+’ Rangers deal
Rangers are very unlikely to complete the permanent signing of Vaclav Cerny in this month’s transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Wolfsburg are set to demand upwards of £8million for the 27-year-old amid growing interest in his signature.
West Ham and Villarreal have been keeping a close eye on the winger’s progress and would be prepared to outbid Rangers in the summer.
As things stand, Philippe Clement’s side are doing their best to keep hold of Cerny on loan and it looks likely that he will see out the season at Ibrox.
However, the Scottish club’s financial position means they are unlikely to be able to meet Wolfsburg’s asking price and will have to settle on his short-term stay.
Given the level of interest and financial muscle from Rangers’ rivals in their efforts to agree a permanent move, he is expected to move elsewhere following his loan.
Rangers unlikely to complete Vaclav Cerny deal amid West Ham interest
Cerny has become a fans’ favourite at Ibrox while on loan and is widely seen as one of the brightest points of what has been a difficult season so far.
The Czechia international has scored 12 goals and provided seven assists in 34 appearances across all competitions and has become a vital part of Clement’s team.
As a result of those performances, Rangers were keen to explore the possibility of turning his loan move permanent in the summer, but have been left disappointed.
Rangers’ financial issues have been well-documented this season, and they are set to be limited in their transfer window activity once more come the summer.

Nils Koppen and the transfer team at Ibrox will instead be tasked with finding low-cost deals to help strengthen the team without huge financial implications.
