Van de Ven and Mathys Tel react as Son Heung-min sends message after Tottenham exit

Son Heung-min has taken to social media to pay tribute following confirmation of a major departure from Tottenham.

Despite ending their long wait for a trophy with the Europa League title, this was still an extremely poor season for Spurs, as they finished 17th in the Premier League with 22 defeats in 38 league games.

Last week, Football Insider reported that in the wake of that, Tottenham had taken the decision to sack manager Ange Postecoglou.

On Friday (6 June), that was made official, with the club issuing a statement confirm the Australian’s departure after two years in charge in North London.

Ange Postecoglou receives growing tribute

With the club now searching for their new manager, Football Insider has revealed that Tottenham are confident of appointing Brentford boss Thomas Frank to replace Postecoglou.

Meanwhile, Son, who lifted the Europa League trophy for Spurs after being named club captain by Postecoglou following the departure of Harry Kane, has paid tribute to the 59-year-old.

Taking to his Instagram page in the wake of the sacking, the winger posted a series pictures of the pair together, including celebrating that Europa League triumph.

Reflecting on the Australian’s time working with the club and himself, Son added an emotional caption to that post, writing:

“Gaffer. You’ve changed the trajectory of this club. You believed in yourself, and us, since day one and never wavered for a second. Even when others did.

“You knew what we were capable of all along. You did it your way. And your way brought this club the best night it’s had in decades. We will have those memories for life.

“You trusted me with the captaincy. One of the highest honours of my career. It’s been an incredible privilege to learn from your leadership up close, I am a better player and a better person because of you.

“Ange Postecoglou, you are a Tottenham Hotspur legend forever. Thank you, mate.”

In response, that post was liked by Liverpool attacker Federico Chiesa, as well as several of Son’s Tottenham teammates such as Mathys Tel, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin.

Tottenham set for further overhaul after manager sacking

Football Insider Verdict

There will be plenty of questions about what other changes we might see at Spurs this summer following the departure of their manager.

Claims have already emerged of a potential player exodus at Tottenham in the wake of Postecoglou’s sacking, given how close he seemingly was with the squad.

Indeed, Son himself is one player whose future looks as though it will be under particular scrutiny over the coming weeks.

There have already been suggestions that Son could leave Tottenham amid interest from Saudi Arabia this summer, and a reaction such as this may not change that.

It seems clear from this that the 32-year-old had an excellent relationship with Postecoglou, and so given he has now left, that may ensure the South Korean international is more open to moving on as well.
