Van de Ven reacts as Pedro Porro sends emotional Tottenham farewell to Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham’s Pedro Porro has taken to social media to send an emotional goodbye message to Ange Postecoglou, with defender Micky van de Ven reacting.

Porro arrived at Tottenham in January 2023, but his career in North London really sparked into life that summer, when the Australian manager was appointed.

Under Postecoglou, the full-back flourished into an established Premier League player, picking up seven assists in his 35 domestic appearances during the 2023/24 season.

The Spaniard also played the full 90 minutes, as Tottenham beat Manchester United in the Europa League final, to win their first major trophy in 17 years.

Porro bids farewell to Postecoglou

Last week (1 June), Football Insider exclusively revealed that Tottenham were going to sack Postecoglou, despite his European success.

The 59-year-old was set to pay the price for a dismal domestic season, in which Spurs finished down in 17th with just 38 points.

On Friday (6 June) afternoon, Tottenham confirmed their decision to dismiss Postecoglou in a club statement, which cited the need to compete on multiple fronts as the reason for his departure.

Following the news, Porro took to Instagram to bid farewell to his former manager, sharing a number of photos of the pair embracing, with the caption: “Thank you for everything, boss.

“For mentoring me early on, helping me settle into the club, and trusting me out on the pitch.

“I’ll always be grateful for the way you led us, defended us, and kept us going through all the highs and lows.

“Above everything, you gave us one of the greatest moments in the club’s history and for that, you’ll always be celebrated. Wishing you all the very best, boss.”

Spurs defender Van de Ven clearly agreed with the sentiment of the message, liking the post to show appreciation for Postecoglou.

Football Insider Verdict

Porro was clearly a big fan of his former boss, and will be devastated that the Australian has been dismissed.

When the former Celtic manager came to North London, the defender was one of the players who benefited most from his arrival, as he was allowed to invert and utilise his attacking qualities.

Just a few days ago, Porro publicly supported Postecoglou, saying that it would be good for the dressing room if the 59-year-old stayed at the club.

The right-back’s own future is still in doubt, with Football Insider exclusively revealing back in April that Porro could rejoin Manchester City this summer.

After the news that Postecoglou has been sacked, the full-back may decide that it is time to move on and follow him out the door.
