Van Dijk, Gakpo react to Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai’s ‘important’ message

Dominik Szoboszlai caught the attention of his Liverpool teammates after sharing an “important” message on social media.

Hungary have yet to kick off their World Cup qualification journey, sitting in the same group as Armenia, Ireland, and Portugal, instead facing Sweden and Azerbaijan in international friendlies.

The 24-year-old netted the eventual winner in a 2-1 win over the latter on Tuesday, 10 June, adding to his eight goals and eight assists in 49 appearances from the 2024/25 season.

Szoboszlai has become an integral part of Arne Slot‘s team, and, speaking to Liverpool News 247 (10 June), Martin Allen squashed any chance of the midfielder’s exit despite Florian Wirtz’s impending arrival.

The Hungarian continues to impress away from Anfield, with his teammates now reacting to his latest exploits while away on international duty.

Taking to Instagram (11 June), Szoboszlai wrote: “There were two matches to learn from, but it is important that, in the end, we tuned into the World Cup qualifiers with a victory.”

Teammates Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Luis Diaz, Curtis Jones, and Cody Gakpo, who Liverpool could offer a new contract, Football Insider understands, all liked the post, joined by Justin Kluivert.

Arne Slot to build new Liverpool squad around rising stars

Football Insider verdict

At just 24 years of age, Szoboszlai is likely to play a key role in the Reds’ team over the coming seasons, while the likes of Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah enter the twilight of their careers.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Wirtz will be joining a star-studded team at Anfield, but with 16 goals and 14 assists this season, he will surely be able to hold his own in the attacking lineup.

The likes of Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, and Luis Diaz could all be forced out of Liverpool, with Football Insider understanding that the latter could push to leave this summer.

Slot is already building upon Jurgen Klopp’s project, adding Jeremie Frimpong and Armin Pecsi to the squad this summer, with the Reds clearly wanting to fight for more silverware next season.

Despite winning the Premier League during the Dutchman’s first season in England, being knocked out of the Champions League and FA Cup at early stages left fans wanting far better from the team.

A 10-point gap at the top of the Premier League table would suggest that surrounding teams need to improve drastically during the summer transfer window, but the Reds are also developing the squad.
