Van Dijk to sign Liverpool deal? Big update today

Liverpool are working hard behind the scenes to secure a new contract for Virgil van Dijk, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Liverpool are speaking to the agents of all three of their star players as Arne Slot is keen to keep them at the club.

While Mohamed Salah was outspoken about his situation following the 3-2 win against Southampton, Van Dijk remained diplomatic as he insisted he was only focused on the next game.

The winger admitted he was “more out than in” at Anfield after confirming no formal offer of a new deal had been made by the club.

Now, sources say negotiations with the captain, 33, over a potential new deal are thought to be less complicated than with Salah.

Van Dijk, like Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, has less than a year remaining on his deal at Anfield and will be able to discuss terms over a pre-contract move abroad in January.

However, he remains a crucial part of Slot’s side, having started all 12 of their Premier League games and all five of their Champions League games so far this season.

Virgil van Dijk contract update emerges at Liverpool after Mo Salah twist

Well-connected former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider earlier this month that he has “no doubt” that Van Dijk will “definitely” sign a new deal after talks.

With Liverpool sitting at the top of the Premier League after 12 games, they have established an eight-point gap to second-placed Manchester City.

Slot’s successful spell in charge so far is said to have made the potentially-departing stars more confident about their position and role in his team.

However, the longer time spent without a formal offer being made, the more likely all three of the star players come to leaving Anfield.

As a result, Liverpool are expected to accelerate talks with the players’ agents in the near future, despite what could prove to be difficult negotiations.

Salah has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, while Real Madrid remain determined to land a deal for Alexander-Arnold.

Van Dijk, though, has remained quiet about the ongoing situation and there is a growing feeling that he could soon commit to a contract extension.
