Van Nistelrooy in contention for Coventry City job after Man United axe- sources

Ruud van Nistelrooy is under consideration for the vacant manager’s job at Coventry City just days after leaving Man United, sources have told Football Insider.

The 48-year-old left Old Trafford last week after a short stint as caretaker manager and is now in the running to manage the Sky Blues after Mark Robins’ sacking.

Van Nistelrooy was very keen to remain on the staff at United but Ruben Amorim decided against keeping him when he arrived.

The ex-striker impressed in his interim role at Man United and during his time with PSV Eindhoven.

He was wanted by Burnley in the off-season but eventually chose to return to the Red Devils in a supporting role to Erik ten Hag, who was replaced with Amorim.

It is believed Van Nistelrooy’s availability is also being monitored by several clubs across Europe.

He won three and drew one of four games in the Premier League, League Cup and Europa League in his interim role at United.

The 48-year-old also won 34 of his 50 games in charge at PSV in the 2022-23 campaign, winning the Dutch Cup and Super Cup.

Van Nistelrooy has also acted as assistant boss for the Netherlands in two separate stints and is now keen to forge his career as a number one once again.

Coventry are also considering appointing ex-Everton and Chelsea boss Frank Lampard.
