Van Nistelrooy to Crystal Palace: Pundit shares emphatic next manager claim
Crystal Palace are not considering hiring Ruud van Nistelrooy as an option to take over from Oliver Glasner amid building pressure at Selhurst Park.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who remains well-connected within the game, claimed that the Eagles are keen to stick by their current boss for now.
However, should they opt to pull the trigger, the Palace hierarchy are more likely to turn to a tried and tested boss such as David Moyes to keep them in the Premier League.
Staying in the league is vitally important to the club, with plans to expand Selhurst Park already in place as they continue to consolidate their position.
However, they have won just one of their first 11 league games so far this season, raising the pressure on the manager’s position.
Van Nistelrooy’s availability after a short stint as Man United’s interim boss has led to several links with job opportunities, but Palace are unlikely to be interested.
Football Insider revealed on 20 November that he is keen to remain in the Premier League and is surveying the potential openings at Palace, Southampton and Wolves.
Crystal Palace manager plan predicted amid Van Nistelrooy twist
Since their promotion to the Premier League in 2013, Palace have turned to the likes of Tony Pulis, Neil Warnock, Sam Allardyce and Roy Hodgson to help keep them in the league.
As a result, Robinson has insisted that they would replace Glasner with a boss in that mould rather than experimenting with Van Nistelrooy – but as things stand, they are backing the Austrian to lead them out of their difficult start.
“No, that’s not the Palace business model,” he told Football Insider.
“When they try something new and it doesn’t work, they tend to go back to tried and tested which keeps them in the Premier League.
“That’s what they’ve done for years, look at what they did with Roy Hodgson.
“Being in the Premier League is of vital importance to Palace with their new stadium plans and looking at where they’re trying to take the club.
“Oliver Glasner came in, changed the style of football, and did a really impressive job last season.
“I don’t think they’ll panic too quickly about his position because he’s proved what he can do.
“I’ll be honest, I didn’t see this slow start to the season coming for Palace, I didn’t have them anywhere near the bottom four or five.
“I think they’ve just had a poor start, they’ve made some poor signings and been unlucky with injuries.

“So results haven’t been great for Palace, but the talk about a new manager there is a little bit too soon.
“If they are to go away from Oliver Glasner, I think we’d see a David Moyes or a Graham Potter type, more likely Moyes to ensure Premier League safety.”
