‘Very clever’ Eddie Howe hailed after Newcastle United transfer reveal – pundit
Eddie Howe has been “very clever” while discussing Newcastle United’s summer transfer plans.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the manager’s latest comments.
Speaking to the media on Friday (15 April), Howe, 44, warned this summer’s transfer window “won’t be the revolution that everyone thinks”.
He also claimed the club are working under “financial restrictions.”
Kenny insists Howe was right to make these comments as Newcastle don’t want other clubs to take advantage of their new financial strength.
“Newcastle can’t go out and spend millions and millions to get a squad capable of getting into the top-four, it just can’t happen,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He has to come out and say that because any club who hears Newcastle are interested will add 20% or 30% onto their asking price.
“So it’s very clever from Howe to come out and say that, they can’t a precedent of overpaying for these players.
“There is also financial fair play and they need to keep an eye on that.
“I’m sure they will spend but it’s about doing it sensibly.”

Newcastle signed Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes, Dan Burn and Matt Targett, spending close to £100million.
They are next in action against Leicester City on Sunday (17 April) as they look to secure a sixth home win from their last seven.
In other news, Newcastle United have made a move to win the race to sign a 22-year-old as personal terms are agreed.
