‘Very odd’ – Thomas Tuchel questioned over peculiar Trevoh Chalobah England decision

England manager Thomas Tuchel has been questioned for his latest decision amid injuries in the Three Lions camp.

Tuchel named his England squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia, with stars Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer and Jude Bellingham missing through injury.

England currently sit top of their World Cup qualifying group with three wins from three, including a 1-0 win over Andorra in the last international break.

The 2026 World Cup is less than a year away, and Tuchel will be thinking and looking at players he wants in his squad in Canada, America and Mexico.

Bayer Leverkusen defender gets nod over Chelsea star

Tuchel faces another injury concern with Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton having to be replaced by Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Jarell Quansah.

Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph felt Tuchel’s selections didn’t “feel consistent” with what the German was saying in public.

Law says he finds it “very odd that Thomas Tuchel made a point of saying Trevoh Chalobah was unlucky to be left out of his squad last week.

“But then when he wants an extra defender it’s Jarell Quansah.”

Trevoh Chalobah should be in frame for World Cup

Football Insider Verdict

Chalobah has started all three of Chelsea’s Premier League fixtures this season and the 26-year-old can count himself unlucky that he was not selected in Tuchel’s squad.

The defender has stepped up for Chelsea amid injuries at centre-halve this year, and Enzo Maresca now trusts Chalobah after he had previously sent him out on loan.

Whilst Chalobah is playing in the Premier League, Quansah left Liverpool in the window in search for more game time.

The 22-year-old has not played the calibre of opponent that Chalobah has this season and does not have the same level of experience.

Tuchel may want to look at Quansah as a potential squad player for the World Cup, but Chalobah should be ahead in the pecking order.
