‘Victor Gyokeres to Man United update has blown me away… fair play’
Viktor Gyokeres has long been linked with Premier League clubs, including Man United, after his goalscoring exploits with Sporting CP in Portugal.
Links with the Red Devils only intensified after they appointed ex-Sporting boss Ruben Amorim to replace Erik ten Hag last year (2024).
United will not play European football next season but it has been widely reported that the club have made an approach for Gyokeres ahead of a summer deal.
Amorim’s side have already signed Matheus Cunha and are in pole position to wrap up a deal for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed it “looks like the Amorim influence is going to make the difference” with United ready to land Gyokeres ahead of Arsenal and other rivals.
Man United set to make ‘real statement’ with Gyokeres deal, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted signing Mbeumo and Gyokeres would be a “real statement” for a side with no European football.
United finished 15th in the Premier League last term with Amorim getting off to a stuttering start at Old Trafford.
As such, Wyness insisted he believed the Red Devils “would struggle to attract quality players” this summer.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I’d have thought that European football would be crucial, but it looks like the Amorim influence is going to make the difference for Man United.
“All the noises I’m hearing about Gyokeres is that he’s unhappy with Sporting for going back on a gentlemen’s agreement.
“That all points to the fact that he wants to go to United.
“Getting Mbeumo and Gyokeres in, that’s a real statement for a team who did so badly.
“I’ve got to say, I thought they’d struggle to attract quality players – so fair play if they get this done.”

Rashford could agree another Man United loan
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed last week (4 June) that Man United are keen to sell Marcus Rashford this summer but have not ruled out another loan spell.
Club chiefs at Old Trafford would prefer to cash in on the 27-year-old, and have slapped a £40million price tag on the England international.
Amorim has made it clear that Rashford has no future at the club – and United will consider letting the forward leave on loan later in the window if a suitable cash offer does not materialise.
