Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez to now stay at Man United as Jim Ratcliffe decision made – sources
Man United have decided to keep both Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez at the club despite their persistent injury problems, sources have told Football Insider.
The decision has been made by new Red Devils part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS organisation ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Lindelof, 29, has been limited to 27 appearances in all competitions this season, with Martinez, 26, having featured just 11 times.
But despite their injury issues, with many expecting them to leave the club, both central defenders have been assessed as important players at Old Trafford.
Man United stars to remain at Old Trafford despite constant problems
Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag is currently facing a central defensive crisis, with Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane joining Lindelof and Martinez on the sidelines at this moment in time due to injury.
Such issues forced the manager to deploy his 27th different back four of the season when they met Liverpool on Sunday (7 April), according to the Daily Mail.
Harry Maguire and young star Kambwala played centrally as the Red Devils played out a 2-2 draw with their rivals at Old Trafford.
Defensive changes are expected at the Manchester club in the summer transfer window, with the futures of the likes of Varane and Maguire up in the air.
In terms of incomings, sources told Football Insider last month that Everton ace Jarrad Branthwaite is the club’s number one centre-back target.

Unlike Lindelof and Martinez, the Toffees star has featured heavily this season, with 34 appearances to the 21-year-old’s name in all competitions.
