‘Viktor Gyokeres has a verbal agreement with Arsenal’ – fans react to confirmed news

Viktor Gyokeres’ latest move on international duty has left Arsenal fans confident that his move from Sporting CP will soon be complete.

Gyokeres has emerged as Arsenal’s number one transfer target as the Gunners seek to solve their long-standing number nine issues this summer, with sporting director Andrea Berta very keen on the Swede.

Football Insider revealed on 17 May that Gyokeres and Arsenal’s representatives are in “advanced talks” with the striker “happy to sign” for the Gunners, as Berta and Mikel Arteta press ahead with the transfer.

Arteta remains a fan of RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko as an alternative to Gyokeres this summer, but Berta has overruled the Arsenal boss and will do all he can to complete a deal for Europe’s most prolific striker.

Some of Arsenal’s players have already reached out to Gyokeres after the 26-year-old completed back-to-back titles at Sporting CP, with 39 goals and seven assists in the league on the way to that success.

Gyokeres out of Sweden squad amid Arsenal transfer speculation

Arsenal have made Gyokeres their main target up front after Football Insider revealed that Newcastle will demand well over £100million for Alexander Isak, and the two were set to play together for Sweden.

However, Gyokeres has since pulled out of the Sweden’s squad to face Hungary and Algeria in their two friendlies this month with a “minor injury” which wasn’t disclosed and has previously gone unreported.

Gyokeres therefore won’t aggravate that issue in matches which will have no effect on Sweden‘s Nations League or World Cup qualifying campaign, as well as give him more time to complete a summer transfer.

‘Welcome to Arsenal’ – fans react to new Gyokeres update

Arsenal’s pursuit of Gyokeres may have caused something of a split among the club’s hierarchy as they weigh up whether to pay Sporting’s valuation, but his ‘minor injury’ has given fans newfound confidence.

As some supporters joked that being injured at a crucial time in his career already given Gyokeres “the Arsenal DNA”, others suggested that his withdrawal from Sweden duty could be a case of “transfer-itis”.

With Arsenal and Sporting still at deadlock over a possible deal it remains to be seen when a deal will be completed, but Gyokeres’ absense from this month’s internationals opens up a window for the Gunners to pull the trigger.
