Viktor Gyokeres reacts to Man United message ahead of summer transfer

Viktor Gyokeres has reacted to a message from Man United defender Victor Lindelof on social media ahead of an expected summer switch.

United are in competition with Liverpool and Arsenal for Gyokeres this summer, Mick Brown told Football Insider exclusively.

The Swedish striker worked under Ruben Amorim during his time at Sporting CP in Portugal, establishing himself as one of Europe’s top goal-scorers.

With Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund failing to impress, managing just six Premier League goals between them, United are expected to sign a new striker in the coming transfer window.

Victor Lindelof set to leave Man United after eight years

Having joined the club in 2017, Lindelof meanwhile will be out of contract in the summer and is not expected to renew his deal at Old Trafford.

The defender has made just 27 Premier League appearances over the last two seasons, often struggling with injuries.

However, Lindelof has still been an important part of his national team, joining up with Sweden during the break from club football and featuring in the 5-1 demolition of Northern Ireland.

After the win, the United defender posted a series of images on Instagram, captioned: “Sverige, det var ett tag sen. Tacksam och glad över att vara tillbaka”.

Which translates to: “Sweden, it was a while ago. Grateful and happy to be back”.

Gyokeres then liked the photo, which may fuel the rumours that a summer switch to Old Trafford could be on the cards for the former Coventry man.

Man United set to makes moves for Harry Kane or Viktor Gyokeres this summer

Football Insider Verdict

Whilst both Hojlund and Zirkzee are talented footballers, they have both proven themselves to be un-ready to be the starting striker for United.

Despite having departed in January, Aston Villa winger Marcus Rashford still has more goals for the Red Devils this season than either of the aforementioned strikers, highlighting the poor form in front of goal displayed by both.

As a consequence, United clearly need to make a move for another striker this summer.

Gyokeres is an obvious target, given his links to Amorim, but the club have also been linked with Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane.

The former Tottenham man is understood to have a £54million release clause and would undoubtedly be an assured option in front of goal.

However, with Gyokeres being 26-years-old and Kane 32 in the summer, the Swedish striker may be a more appealing option, given how long he could stay in place, or the potential to make a profit from the forward in the future.
