Viktor Gyokeres reacts to ‘unbelievable’ message from Sheffield United’s Hamer
Sporting star Viktor Gyokeres has reacted to an “unbelievable” message from Sheffield United star Gustavo Hamer on social media.
Having kept pace with Leeds and Burnley for almost all of the season, a 2-1 defeat to Plymouth proved to be the undoing of the Blades’ automatic promotion hopes.
The result gave both sides the boost they needed to propel past Chris Wilder’s side, who will now face the arduous task of competing in the playoffs for a place in the Premier League.
However, there will be confidence around Bramall Lane that their star man and creator-in-chief, Hamer, can lead his side back to England’s top tier.
Gustavo Hamer wins Championship Player of the Season
United rejected a bid from Leeds for Hamer in the summer and their show of faith paid off as the former Coventry man was named Championship Player of the Season.
Hamer beat out several Leeds stars for the award, after scoring nine and assisting seven for Wilder’s side.
Following the achievement, the 27-year-old posted an image of himself holding the award on Instagram, captioned: “Unbelievable to win Championship Player of the Season. Thanks everyone that helped this season, amazing feeling.
“Let’s push all together for promotion, it’s not over yet”.
The post was liked by Hamer’s former Coventry teammate and Man United target Gyokeres, showing his support for the talented attacking midfielder.

With United now condemned to the battle that is the Championship‘s playoffs, Wilder’s side will once again be reliant on Hamer producing magic if they have any hopes of making it to the Premier League this season.
The diminutive attacking midfielder is a deserving winner of the Player of the Season award, in spite of what many Leeds fans may tell you, albeit after Crysencio Summerville won last year a place in the Premier League is surely the grander prize.
Whilst he does not even crack the top 10 of combined goals and assists in England’s second tier this season, you only need to briefly watch him play to see why he is a deserving winner of the accolade.

Brilliant on the ball and tenacious off it, Hamer is one of those elite players who improve all of those around him with his sheer talent.
However, the Dutchman now faces his greatest test. After a gruelling season, and with their opponents in the first round still unclear, the ex-Coventry man will have to step up for his side or else spend another season in the Championship.
