‘Viktor Gyokeres transfer causes internal split at Arsenal’

Arsenal are experiencing a behind-the-scenes battle over the potential signing of Viktor Gyokeres.

After yet another season without a trophy, the Gunners are heading into the summer transfer window under pressure to put together a side capable of ending that wait for silverware next season.

This season, the lack of a centre-forward amid injuries to the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz has been a major issue for Mikel Arteta‘s side.

As a result, Arsenal have been told that signing a centre-forward this summer is key to their hopes of winning a trophy, although it seems there is uncertainty over who to move for.

There have been a number of names linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium as the Gunners search for a new striker.

It has been reported that Arsenal are interested in Gyokeres following his excellent season with Sporting CP, in which he helped the club to another Portuguese title.

Now though, any potential move by the North London club for the Sweden international appears to have taken a fresh twist.

According to an update from the Daily Mail, there is a split behind the scenes at the Emirates over whether or not to move for the striker.

Arsenal were praised for hiring Andrea Berta as their sporting director earlier this year, and he is apparently a fan of Gyokeres from when he worked at Atletico Madrid.

Despite that, views are reportedly “torn” internally over whether the striker could hit the ground running in the Premier League after his time in Portugal.

As a result, there appears to be some considerable debate going on in the background at the Emirates this summer, over a potential move for the 26-year-old.

Given the differing levels between the top-flight in England and Portugal, it is understandable that there may be some concern within the Gunners’ ranks about a potential move for Gyokeres.

Even so, it feels vital that Arsenal decide whether or not to act on their interest in the Sweden international sooner rather than later.

If they do not, then they risk missing out if they on other targets if they ultimately decide to adjust their focus to late in the window.

Given the clear need to sign a striker, it could also affect the mood around the club and their chances of signing in other positions if they are not seen to be dealing with this key piece of business.

With Arsenal also being linked with the likes of Benjamin Sesko, they do have other options they can quickly focus on as well.

As a result, the pressure is already building, and it will be interesting to see if Berta gets the target he likes so soon after his arrival at the club.
