'Just like Dyche' - Exclusive: Pundit shares who'll bring Villa straight back up if they go down
Michael Brown claims that Dean Smith could emulate Burnley boss Sean Dyche and bring Aston Villa straight back to the Premier League if they are relegated this season.
The former Leeds and Tottenham midfielder, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists the 49-year-old is a good “long-term” fit for the Villans despite their struggles this season.
As revealed by Football Insider on Saturday, discussions have been held by the board over potentially sacking the former Brentford boss as the club sit 19th with just six games left to play.
Having seen Dyche get relegated with Burnley before returning to establish the Clarets as a mainstay in the Premier League, Brown believes that Villa could taste the same success by sticking with Smith.
Brown told Football Insider: “Long-term he’ll be a really good fit for Aston Villa, all day long. There will be people on the board saying: ‘Let’s do it now, we’ve got a chance with a new manager.’ That’s human nature as the pressure builds.
“I just think there’s been a real cloud at Aston Villa for some period of time. I just think, like Sean Dyche, if he sticks it out, even if the worst is to happen, they’d be favourites to come back up and I’d back that to happen.”

Dyche currently has Burnley sitting eighth in the Premier League in what is their third successive campaign among England’s elite.
The Clarets, who made an immediate return to the top flight after suffering relegation in 2015, finished seventh last season and secured a place in the Europa League qualifiers.
In other news, it can be REVEALED that Wolves have opened talks to sign Aston Villa star.
