Virgil Van Dijk and Nick Pope react to Fraser Forster’s cheeky Tottenham post
Tottenham goalkeeper Fraser Forster has caught the attention of both Virgil van Dijk and Nick Pope, with a playful social media message.
Forster was not in the squad as Tottenham beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final, to secure their first piece of silverware in 17 years.
Brennan Johnson scored the only goal in Bilbao, bundling home Pape Matar Sarr’s cross in the dying minutes of the first half.
United had the majority of the possession and territory in the second period, but created little, and Ange Postecoglou’s side ultimately held on.
With victory, Spurs have now confirmed their place in the Champions League next season, despite sitting 17th in the Premier League.

Forster celebrates European glory
Forster featured in the early stages of Tottenham’s Europa League run, playing four group stage games against AZ Alkmaar, Galatasaray, Roma, and Rangers.
The 37-year-old wasn’t even on the bench for the final, but that didn’t stop him from enjoying the celebrations with the Spurs team.
Game | Score |
AZ Alkmaar (H) | 1-0 W |
Galatasaray (A) | 3-2 L |
Roma (H) | 2-2 D |
Rangers (A) | 1-1 D |
After the game, Forster took to Instagram, posting a photo of himself holding onto his Europa League winner’s medal.
The caption read: “Another one for the collection,” followed by a winky-face emoji and a heart-eyes emoji.
Liverpool defender Van Dijk, who Forster played with at Southampton, commented to congratulate the keeper, with Nick Pope liking the post.
Postecoglou’s future still undecided
Football Insider Verdict
Before the final, Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham was in the balance, and despite their European success his fate is still undecided.
Of course, winning the Europa League makes it Spurs’ best season in some time, despite their horrific league form, as it is their first major trophy since 2008.
However, it is statistically Tottenham’s worst season since 1991/92, based on the number of defeats they have suffered.
The North London side have lost 25 games in all competitions, with 21 of those coming in the Premier League.
This is simply not good enough for a team of Tottenham’s stature, and Postecoglou will be lucky to make it to the start of next season, despite writing his name in the history books in Bilbao.
