Virgil van Dijk, Bruno Fernandes react to Diogo Jota amid Liverpool exit links

Virgil van Dijk and Man United captain Bruno Fernandes reacted to a message from Diogo Jota amid speculation around a Liverpool exit.

The Portuguese striker joined the Reds from Wolves in 2020 and has gone on to make 182 appearances for the club.

But Jota struggled last season, registering 12 goal contributions for Arne Slot‘s side, his lowest total since switching Molineux for Anfield.

Injuries have been a regular feature of the 28-year-old’s career, and following some fitness issues and a loss of form, the striker started just 14 times in Liverpool’s Premier League title-winning campaign.

Despite his difficulties domestically last season, Jota was still called up to represent his country in the Nations League.

Portugal won 2-1 against Germany in the semi-finals on 4 June, before winning the tournament with a penalty shoot-out against Spain on 8 June after a 2-2 draw.

Diogo Jota shares ‘anything is possible’ message

Following the win, Jota shared three images on Instagram after the tournament win, captioned: “With you on our side, anything is possible. Thank you Portugal”.

The post was liked by Fernandes and Van Dijk, with the duo showing their support for the striker.

Liverpool willing to entertain offers for Diogo Jota

Football Insider Verdict

Jota featured for just seven minutes against Germany, and 15 against Spain, and with his place in Portugal’s side seemingly at risk ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

The 28-year-old may be keen to move on from the Reds to boost his chances of nailing down a starting spot.

Liverpool have been eyeing up a move for Alexander Isak, and even if they fail to sign the Swedish striker, they are still expected to prioritise a move for a forward this summer.

Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider exclusively in April that Liverpool are willing to entertain offers for Jota this summer.

The forward’s poor performances were masked by Mohamed Salah’s brilliance last season, and it would be a surprise to see Slot give the 28-year-old a starting role next season.

Ian Darke revealed to Liverpool News that there will be no shortage of clubs interested in Andy Robertson this summer.
