Virgil van Dijk reacts to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s latest Liverpool message

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk reacted to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s message on social media as exit speculation continues to swirl around the pair.

Liverpool had their goalkeeper Alisson to thank, after the Reds narrowly beat French side PSG in the Champions League (5 March).

Virgil van Dijk made a massive error in the first-half, but the Brazilian shot-stopper was on-hand to bail out the Reds’ captain.

Ibrahima Konate shoved Bradley Barcola in the back, and surprisingly escaped punishment, in another fortunate moment for Liverpool.

Liverpool set for summer exodus lead by Trent Alexander-Arnold

With Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk and Balon d’Or front-runner Mohamed Salah all out of contract in the summer, the transfer window will be crucial for Arne Slot to rebuild his side.

Despite scoring the match-winner with his first touch after coming on as a substitute, Harvey Elliott could also be leaving the club.

Despite all the rumours, the Reds’ stars have, so far, remained tight-lipped, and Alexander-Arnold shared a photo of himself with Elliott after the win on Instagram, captioned: “Advantage. See you at Anfield.”

The right-back’s club captain and teammate, Van Dijk, showed his support for the superstar, by liking the post.

Liverpool turn to mid-table stars to rebuild aging squad

Football Insider Verdict

In the never-ending search for success in football, sometimes, you can feel pretty certain that you’ve found the winning formula.

Liverpool found that exactly, with a phenomenal full-back pairing in Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson, flanking the might Van Dijk, with Salah leading the charge up front.

But time, and Real Madrid, are powerful enemies in football, and the Reds are gearing up for a summer rebuild, in spite of what has been one of the club’s best seasons this century.

The solution it seems, can be found in the fighting pack of European hopefuls. Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and Joao Pedro have been linked with Liverpool moves, as has Milos Kerkez of Bournemouth, and Antonee Robinson of Fulham.

Whilst not quite as attention-grabbing as signing a player from one of the European giants competing in the Champions League, each of those players does actually represent really good value for money.

Making signings from mid-table Premier League teams has been a successful tactic employed by the Reds, with Robertson, Van Dijk, Sadio Mane, Jordan Henderson and Alexis Mac Allister all following a similar path.
