Virgil van Dijk sends Liverpool message after Man City win, Curtis Jones reacts
Virgil van Dijk took to social media to send a message to the Liverpool fans following a comfortable 2-0 victory over Man City on Sunday.
Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai rocketed shots past Ederson during the first half on 23 February, mastering the counterattack as Pep Guardiola’s side retained possession for much of the game.
Arne Slot’s Reds have taken one step closer to lifting the Premier League title in what could be Salah’s final season at Liverpool, with a seven-point gap opening up at the top of the table.
Van Dijk also has supporters worried that he could leave Anfield at the end of the season, though Paul Robinson exclusively told Football Insider that a new deal is “as good as done” now.
If this is to be the defender’s final season at the club, it seems only fitting to see him lift the league title for the second time in eight years at Anfield.

Virgil van Dijk stands strong in 2-0 win over Manchester City
Taking to Instagram [23 February], van Dijk posted a selection of images of himself throughout the win over Guardiola’s side, writing: “Locked in!!”
Curtis Jones, who also starred in the 2-0 win, replied with a muscle emoji, showing the true support amongst teammates as the Reds cruise towards the Premier League title.
Liverpool cruising to a second Premier League title
With Liverpool taking a seven-point lead on Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, it is difficult to see how the Reds slip up so badly now with just 11 matches remaining.
Paul Merson has already told Liverpool to purchase a cut-price title parade after the Gunners lost 1-0 to West Ham on Saturday (22 February), with a single Jarrod Bowen enough to sink them at the Emirates.
Premier League standings | Points |
1. Liverpool | 64 |
2. Arsenal | 53 |
3. Nottingham Forest | 47 |
Myles Lewis-Skelly’s sending-off for Arsenal certainly helped Liverpool’s cause, and some at Anfield might already be celebrating following the victory over Man City.
The Reds also have an opportunity to claim another Champions League title, with a heavyweight clash against Paris Saint-Germain up next, and even an EFL Cup game against Newcastle United.
A treble-winning season would be an incredible ending before Slot likely begins a rebuild in the summer.
