Virgil van Dijk sends message after Liverpool contract update
Virgil van Dijk has posted on social media amid a dramatic new update in his contract situation at Liverpool.
Van Dijk has enjoyed a commanding season for the most part, playing a crucial role in Liverpool’s defensive strength as they edge closer to a Premier League title under Arne Slot.
However, concerns have grown around his future, with just a few months remaining on his current deal. He isn’t the only key player in this position – both Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also out of contract at the end of the season.
While Alexander-Arnold is closing in on a free transfer to Real Madrid, it appears that Liverpool are keen to avoid a repeat with their two other key players after a new update on their situation.

Liverpool reach breakthrough in contract talks with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah
David Ornstein of The Athletic has reported that both Salah and Van Dijk are “closing in” on agreeing new two-year contracts with Liverpool.
He added that “a breakthrough in negotiations has been reached” with the pair set to extend their stay at Anfield until June 2027.
Shortly after the news broke, Van Dijk posted a series of photos on his Instagram story from Liverpool’s latest training session, giving fans a subtle nod amid the growing optimism.

There has been heavy speculation around the futures of both players as the season edges closer to its conclusion, with negotiations previously at a standstill.
Van Dijk had been linked with Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, raising concerns among fans as his contract approached its end. But this latest update will come as a major relief to supporters, with the club now looking increasingly likely to keep two of their biggest stars.
The Dutch defender has been instrumental for Liverpool this season, marshalling a defence that has conceded the second-fewest goals in the Premier League. His partnership with Ibrahima Konate has become one of the most reliable in the division.

Liverpool must shift focus to Ibrahima Konate after Salah and Van Dijk deals
Although no official announcement has been made yet, it’s clear that significant progress has been made behind the scenes regarding new contracts for Salah and Van Dijk.
But the club may face the same dilemma with another player as Liverpool have yet to make progress towards a new contract agreement with Konate.
He will have just one year left on his current deal this summer with PSG showing an an interest in Konate.
After the situation with Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool’s hierarchy will be eager to avoid letting another key player’s contract run down without resolution.
