
Virgil van Dijk sends message to Liverpool fans after David Ornstein’s update
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has taken to social media to send a message to fans after reports suggest the club have opened talks over a new deal.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Liverpool have made an offer to the 33-year-old, with an opening proposal taking place some time ago.
Van Dijk is one of three key Liverpool players, alongside Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
As it stands, the centre-back would be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January first, but Liverpool appear keen to retain his services.
Arne Slot’s side are yet to make a breakthrough regarding the length of the deal or its value, but talks are taking place with the Netherlands international about extending his contract.
Liverpool remain seven points clear of challengers Chelsea and Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table despite their 3-3 draw with Newcastle on Wednesday (December 4).

Van Dijk has been key to their remarkable run of form, making 44 recoveries, 28 interceptions, and winning 73.8 per cent of his aerial duels in the league alone.
The defender took to Instagram after the draw with Newcastle to let fans know that his “Focus already on Saturday” amid the contract uncertainty.
