Vitor Pereira is not the problem at Wolves, this is who’s to blame

Vitor Pereira is under big pressure at Wolves but he is not the real problem, according to a former Premier League CEO.

The Old Gold currently sit bottom of the Premier League, with just two points from their opening 10 games of the season.

Wolves’ 3-2 defeat to Burnley last Sunday (26 October) was followed by Saturday’s 3-0 reverse at Fulham, and means they are now eight points adrift of Burnley in 17th.

Football Insider exclusively revealed that Pereira is likely to be given until the international break to save his job.

Wolves fans are not blaming Vitor Pereira

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Pereira is not the man to blame for Wolves’ poor form.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that the problems lie with the club’s ownership group, Fosun.

Chairman Jeff Shi is very much involved, but Fosun take more of a back seat in terms of the everyday running of the club.

Wyness added that the distant nature of the owners at Wolves is a major issue.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s a shame, I feel sorry for Vitor Pereira. He did a good job for them last season, and I think what he’s finding now is that the squad has been weakened over the summer.

“When I looked at it, they’re almost on exactly the same number of points as they were at this time last season. But then they went on this great run and quite comfortably stayed in the league. I don’t see that happening again this year.

“Now, Vitor Pereira, I don’t think he is the problem. Normally, it would come on to a manager, but in this case, I don’t think the Wolves fans really think he is the problem. I think they would tend to support him.

“I think the problems lie at the ownership level with Fosun. They seem distant in terms of the way that they’re handling the club. Jeff Shi is obviously hands-on, but the owners do seem to be very distant, and I think that’s part of the problem.”

Wolves have way out after Pereira contract

Pereira signed a new deal at Molinuex last month, which seemed to be a vote of confidence from the board, despite the club’s disastrous form.

However, Wolves may have included a hidden clause in Pereira’s new contract which would enable them to sack him if needed.

That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who believes there could be a clause in the new deal that reduces Pereira’s pay-off if Wolves decide to part ways with the Portuguese boss.
