Vitor Pereira surely can’t avoid Wolves sack after baffling decision vs Chelsea

Vitor Pereira is on the verge of being sacked by Wolves, and one decision he made against Chelsea explains why it could happen very soon.

Wolves hosted Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night (October 29) on the back of some horrendous Premier League form.

The Old Gold were beaten 3-2 by relegation rivals Burnley on Sunday, resulting in chaotic scenes at full-time and calls for Pereira to be sacked.

The Portuguese tactician has taken just two points from a possible 27 in the top-flight, with Football Insider revealing that Pereira could be sacked by Wolves before the international break.

But, following one decision he made against Chelsea, the 57-year-old is surely on borrowed time.

Vitor Pereira fielded six defenders for Wolves vs Chelsea

In a bid to turn the tide and find some momentum, Pereira made 11 changes to the side that lost against Burnley, including starts for the likes of Hwang Hee-chan and Fer Lopez.

Pereira has been scrutinised for his team selections this season and made some questionable decisions, with the experienced boss choosing to field six defenders at home to Chelsea.

Jackson Tchatchoua, Matt Doherty, Emmanuel Agbadou, Yerson Mosquera, Toti Gomes, and David Moller Wolfe were all on the pitch at Molineux.

The Wolves boss attempted to go incredibly defensive in fear of being trounced by the visitors, and ironically, the hosts conceded twice in the space of 15 minutes, thanks to goals from Andrey Santos and Tyrique George, before Estevao added a third before half-time.

Unsurprisingly, this woeful start to the game was met with a chorus of boos from the Molineux faithful and chants of ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’, with Pereira’s job surely hanging by a thread.

Pereira’s excellent start at Wolves unravels

Pereira’s tactics and substitutions have hampered Wolves’ chances of competing this term, but it isn’t only the Portuguese who is a problem.

Wolves chairman Jeff Shi has constantly asset-stripped the football club, with the Old Gold selling their best players every summer without replacing them.

On this occasion, it was Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri who were sacrificed by the owners after they combined for 32 goals in the Premier League last term.

Now, the top-flight strugglers are paying the price, and that is ultimately down to Fosun selling their best players.
