Vivianne Miedema reacts as Manchester City make contract announcement
Manchester City Women announced on Friday that Rebecca Knaak had signed a new contract at the WSL1 club.
While Man City’s men’s side are battling to win the Premier League, the women’s team are in a comfortable position to win their second-ever title.
The Citizens are top of the league by six points, having won 10 of their first 11 matches.
This is despite Man City losing 2-1 to Chelsea in their opening match of the season.
Now, the good news keeps coming, with Knaak signing a two-year extension, much to the delight of Vivianne Miedema.

Knaak has been a vital player at Man City throughout 2025.
The defender joined the Manchester club in January and quickly impressed under Andree Jeglertz.
Her highlight to date was no doubt her goal against Manchester United in the derby in November, as Knaak headed in from a corner in a 3-0 victory.
- Knaak joined Man City in January
- The defender was intially on an 18-month contract
- However, she has now extended her deal until the summer of 2028
Now, the 29-year-old has been rewarded for her displays, signing a new two-year contract.
Man City were quick to announce this on their Instagram account on 12 December, which drew plenty of reaction.
Teammate Miedema was one of the people to comment, with the Netherlands international posting three heart-eyed emojis.
Knaak: Man City feels like home
Knaak was obviously pleased to have extended her contract.
The defender’s deal was set to expire in the summer, but now her long-term future has been confirmed.
Speaking to BBC Sport on 12 December, Knaak expressed her delight that the deal was done.
“It’s the club I love and the club I want to be successful at,” said Knaak.
“I have so much unfinished business to be done. It feels like home to me now, and I feel this is where I belong and I’m meant to be.”
Hopefully this is a sign that the Citizens are set to renew multiple new deals across both the men’s and women’s game.
With Bernardo Silva out of contract at Man City in the summer, many fans will be hoping that he is next on the list to renew.
If not, this will be a missed opportunity by the Etihad club.
