Chris Sutton has given his prediction for Sunday’s Old Firm Scottish Cup semi-final between Celtic and Rangers.
The former Hoops striker turned BT Sport believes that the Gers have a chance because of the Hoops’ indifferent form at times this season, but feels that if Brendan Rodgers’ side turn up at Hampden and play at their best there will only be one winner.
“Rangers have a chance, I don’t think Celtic have been great this season, they have a vulnerability…if Celtic turn up tomorrow they will wallop Rangers,” Sutton said on BT Sport’s Score show.
The teams have met on three occasions this season so far, with the Hoops winning two and the other match a draw.
The Gers haven’t defeated the Hoops over 90 minutes since March 2012, their last win coming two years ago on penalties in the Scottish Cup semi-final.
Football Insider verdict
Sutton might be going slightly over the top when he uses the word ‘wallop’, but no one can really disagree with a word that he says. The last match between the teams saw the Hoops triumph with 10 men, but Rangers had more than a few chances in the game and Alfredo Morelos was guilty of missing some great chances in the second-half. With so much at stake for both sides, Celtic looking for the treble, and Rangers looking to keep their season alive, the game might be a bit tense at first, but there is every chance it could explode into the incident packed match which the Old Firm game is renowned for.
