Wan-Bissaka reacts to Edson Alvarez’s message amid West Ham transfer uncertainty
Edson Alvarez and Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s peformances were at opposite ends of the scale for West Ham United last season.
The Irons will end June with a threadbare squad after several departures were confirmed in East London, including long-serving players like Lukasz Fabianski, Vladimir Coufal, Aaron Cresswell and Danny Ings.
Jean-Clair Todibo’s loan move from Nice has been made permanent for £32.8million in West Ham’s only incoming transfer so far, but further exits are on the cards after a hugely disappointing 2024–25 season.
Wan-Bissaka was arguably the only success of last summer’s transfer window after over over £130m was spent to little effect, and he’s one of few players whom West Ham will be desperate to keep hold of.

Cryptic message sent after Alvarez displays away from West Ham
Although Luis Guilherme, Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug, Guido Rodriguez and Evan Ferguson all failed to impress after arriving at West Ham last term, several others had below-par second seasons.
Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus were the clearest examples of this after strong debut campaigns at the London Stadium following their respective moves from Ajax, and exit links have swirled around the pair.
The Mexican midfielder attracted attention from Monaco in the January transfer window yet stayed put in East London, and his focus at the moment is instead on Mexico’s campaing in the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Alvarez posted on Instagram (30 June) after he led El Tri to a 2-0 win over Saudi Arabia to reach the semi-finals, and in a message liked by Wan-Bissaka, he said; “Maktub”, meaning “it is written” in Arabic.
West Ham to push Alvarez, Kudus sales amid financial concerns
Football Insider Verdict
West Ham may have missed the chance to sell their number 19 in January after several indisciplined displays saw Alvarez sent off twice in the first half of last season, but they’ll likely try again this summer.
Kudus has attracted by far the most transfer attention at the London Stadium and could make a big-money move to Newcastle or Tottenham this summer, but he’s still a player Graham Potter will value.
The Irons have already missed out on one of their top attacking targets in Tammy Abraham, and after last summer’s huge outlay, it’ll either be sell-to-buy or a more cost-effective period of transfer business as West Ham look to avoid a potential PSR breach.
