Graeme Murty wants 'stratospheric' transfer bid for Rangers attacker as English club offer is confirmed

Rangers manager Graeme Murty has admitted he wants to keep in-form attacker Josh Windass at Ibrox after receiving a bid from Preston for the 24-year-old.
Windass has been one of the key performers in the Gers side since Murty was handed the reins in October and has attracted interest from a number of Championship sides.
The 24-year-old has scored five times in his last 11 appearances for the Gers after a disappointing first 18 months at Ibrox.
Murty confirmed Preston’s bid was below the valuation the Gers hold for the attacker and revealed his preference would be for Windass to stay with Rangers.
“He’s someone we want to keep at the football club, and we’ve spoken to Josh,” Murty said, as quoted by the Sunday Post.
“The bid that came in from Preston was below our valuation and, while we respect their right to make that bid, he’s our player and we want to keep him.
“It’s Josh’s job to try to elevate his game to that next level. I’m confident he can do that here, because he does have some wonderful attributes.
“It’s up to Josh now to make sure that if another bid comes in, it’s an absolutely stratospheric one.”
The former Accrington attacker joined the Ibrox giants in 2016 alongside Matt Crooks after the pair’s deals came to an end in England.
Neither player was particularly successful in their debut season in Scotland although Windass has gone on to force his way into a regular starting spot and been one of the Gers’ best performers.
Windass has scored six times in 24 appearances for the Light Blues this season, with five of those coming since Pedro Caixinha was sacked and replaced by Murty at the end of October.
The 24-year-old is under contract at Ibrox until the summer of 2020.
