Waste of time: Why Tottenham senior man would be better off quitting

COMMENT By Dominic Toner

Hugo Lloris agreed a new contract with Tottenham on Thursday and the Frenchman is limiting his huge potential.

Spurs announced the deal on their official website and the 29-year-old is now set to stay at White Hart Lane until 2022.

The north London club have helped Lloris develop since his arrival in 2012, but he should be preparing to take the next step in his career.

The Spurs goalkeeper is regarded as one of the best in the Premier League and is recognised in the same light across Europe.

He has kept an impressive 65 clean sheets in 189 appearances for Spurs and has the potential to play for any club in the world, including the likes of European heavyweights Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Lloris has now pledged his long-term future to Spurs, a club who are facing a tough battle to reach the top four this season.

The Premier League competition has stepped up this season and Spurs are in serious danger of being blown away by their rivals.

Lloris deserves to be playing in the Champions League every season with his quality and there is a danger that he could be wasting his time.

The goalkeeper is currently in the peak of his career and after some great service to Spurs, should be joining one of the elite clubs in the world.

He is also the number one option for France’s national team and has made 85 appearances, including playing every game at the European Championships as they finished runners-up to Portugal.

In other Tottenham news, the defeat against Chelsea is one of the club’s worst three moments in 2016.
