Career at crossroads: Chelsea midfielder is biggest disappointment of 2016
COMMENT By Dominic Toner
Football Insider names the Chelsea player who has been the biggest disappointment in 2016.
Oscar has been the most disappointing player for the Blues in the last 12 months despite making a huge impact when he first joined the club.
The 25-year-old has endured a miserable year at Stamford Bridge and is reportedly set to complete a £52million move to Chinese club Shanghai SIPG in the January transfer window.
He was once regarded as one of the best young players in Europe and Chelsea fans believed he could emulate club legend Frank Lampard as a goalscoring midfielder, but now has no future with the Blues.
Oscar moved to Stamford Bridge for £25million in 2012 and became an instant hit, with a memorable goal against Juventus on his Champions League debut.

The Brazilian continued to show his strengths in the Premier League and was closely compared to Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho, who has since gone on to reach new levels.
Oscar’s form has been declining in the past couple of seasons and 2016 has been another underwhelming year.
The attacking midfielder played a bit-part role in the club’s miserable Premier League campaign last season and was unable to cement his place in the starting XI, despite several players suffering a huge dip in form.
Antonio Conte has transformed Chelsea in the second half of 2016 and they sit top of the table at Christmas.
Oscar has had a very limited role in the club’s success this campaign and has completed 90 minutes in his 11 appearances across all competitions.
He is now set to end his Blues career and it’s a major disappointment that he never fulfilled such great potential.
