A lifelong Villa fan, Taylor’s dream became reality when he signed for the Midlands club from Sheffield Wednesday in 1995.

He was part of the team that lifted the 1996 League Cup at the old Wembley, getting on the scoresheet as Brian Little guided his team to a 3-0 win over Leeds.

During his career at Villa Park, Taylor made 245 appearances for the club, scoring 33 goals during those matches with most of those games played in the Premier League.

Now, the Midlands club sit in the second tier of English football after they suffered their first relegation in nearly three decades last term.

An instant return to the top flight will not happen this season with Bruce’s side sitting 16 points off the top six with 11 games of the season remaining.
