'Smashing it' – Leeds fans react on Twitter as 25-year-old scores on international duty

Leeds fans are elated with the goalscoring heroics of Chris Wood on Twitter as he continued his prolific form for New Zealand against Fiji.

Wood, 25, scored from the penalty spot in the All Whites’ 2-0 away win over Fiji at Churchill Park, while Melbourne Victory winger Marco Rojas also got his name on the score sheet.

With West Ham stopper Winston Reid currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, Leeds’ number nine Wood stepped in to wear the armband for Anthony Hudson’s side.

Wood’s goal has pushed New Zealand a step closer to qualification for the 2018 World Cup, with his country needing just a point against Fiji on Tuesday to qualify for the Oceania play-off.

Leeds fans were delighted on Twitter to see their target man continue to score on the international scene ahead of the Yorkshire giants clash against Reading on April 1.

However, some were desperate just to see the safe return of their top scorer, who has now scored 27 goals in all competitions at club level this season.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Manager Garry Monk is almost certain to give former Leicester striker Wood his 34th Championship start of the season, as the Yorkshire giants travel to the Madjeski Stadium.

Three points could see the Whites climb to third in the Championship table and to within five points of Brighton, if the Seagulls and Huddersfield slip up.

In other Leeds news, Monk and his squad are in line for huge bonuses if they achieve promotion.
