Watford and QPR make moves to sign Ar’jany Martha – sources
Watford and Queens Park Rangers are racing to sign former Ajax defender Ar’jany Marha, sources have told Football Insider.
Martha, 20, left Ajax at the end of last season after turning down the offer of a contract extension, and is now available on a free transfer.
QPR and Watford are both in the market for a new left-back in the transfer window and have registered their interest in the Curacao international.
The left-back made his first-team debut for Ajax last season, featuring 12 times over the course of the season, including twice in the Europa League.
Watford and QPR make moves to sign Ar’jany Martha after Ajax exit
Martha joined the academy setup at Ajax in 2019 and made 110 appearances for the Jong Ajax side in the Dutch Eerste Divisie before taking the step up to the senior side.
His performances last season saw him become a part of the first team at Ajax, but he struggled to nail down his position against more experienced teammates.
Having represented the Netherlands between under-15 and under-17 levels, the left-back declared for his native Curacao in March when he was called up to their senior squad.
Both Watford and QPR are keen to add strength in depth to their squad, with Martha’s experience in European competition raising him near the top of their shortlists.
Profit and sustainability issues have been a theme throughout the Championship this summer, making his availability on a free transfer crucial.

Marti Cifuentes helped guide QPR to safety last season with an impressive run of form and is looking to keep the momentum going by strengthening in the transfer market.
Watford, meanwhile, finished 15th last season after a string of disappointing results and will be looking to fire themselves further up the table with their transfer activity.
