Watford v West Ham
Saturday, 15:00
Watford
The Hornets have defied the odds so far this season after their promotion from the Championship. Watford were widely considered favourites for the drop but have settled in very impressively following their return to the Premier League to the point where they are now as big as 7.60 to be relegated.
Watford have been very active in the transfer market and Quique Sanchez Flores looks a shrewd appointment after the former Atletico Madrid boss replaced Slavisa Jokanovic in the summer. Sitting 13th in the table, the Hornets have already established a healthy seven-point gap above the bottom three which suggests safety is well within their capabilities.
The newly-promoted side have struggled for goals with a heavy reliance on Odion Ighalo to find the net. But importantly Watford have been very tight at the back with four clean sheets already during the campaign. Their best result of the season also came in their last match after a 2-0 victory at Stoke City.
West Ham
If Watford have caught many by surprise, the Hammers have been arguably even more impressive after a superb start under new boss Slaven Bilic. It was always going to be a crucial season for the club, in the final year before moving to the Olympic Stadium, with an element of risk attached to their decision not to offer a new deal to the ever reliable Sam Allardyce.
But Bilic arrived with the support of the fans and the former Hammers defender has not disappointed after guiding the Irons into third place in the table. It could not have got off to a better start after an opening win at Arsenal. This has proved no fluke though as West Ham have since ended Man City’s unbeaten start at the Etihad Stadium before defeating beleaguered champions Chelsea last week.
The Hammers have stumbled a couple of times at Upton Park but their form on the road has been excellent. West Ham have won four games and drawn the other so their best work, as a dangerous counter-attacking side, has been achieved away from home. The Irons have also claimed 13 points away which is the most of any side in the Premier League.
Match Odds
The odds on this match are nothing short of bizarre and all the value points towards the visitors. Watford may have picked up a notable win in their last match but there appears to have been a major over reaction to this and the hosts are too short at 2.60.
Conversely the Hammers look over-priced at 2.98 to win at Vicarage Road. West Ham are third on merit, having established an excellent away record, and are unbeaten in 11 league clashes at Watford dating back to 1985. There is plenty of mileage in backing the visitors to win but more cautious punters may want to also take West Ham draw no bet at a generous 2.10.
To Score
One of the major success stories for the Hammers this season has been Dimitri Payet. The French attacker has been an outstanding asset for Bilic’s team with his pace and flair proving a constant threat to opposing defences.
Payet, who joined from Marseille in the summer, has scored five goals in ten league appearances including in their last two away matches. He looks well worth backing at 3.85 to add to this tally against the Hornets.
Recommended Bets:
Back West Ham to win at 2.98
Back West Ham draw no bet at 2.10
Back Dimitri Payet to score at 3.85
