Wayne Rooney confirms talks with Plymouth Argyle board
Wayne Rooney is set for a meeting with the Plymouth Argyle board over what budget he’ll be able to work with in the January transfer window.
Rooney stated that he will “discuss what funds are available” in a factor that could influence the futures of current players at the club.
Andre Gray and Marko Marosi, both on short-term contracts, are set to see their deals expire next month.
The English coach has said that he “can’t guarantee anything” regarding their futures. He suggests he is waiting for the outcome of the meeting before deciding whether to extend their contracts for the rest of the season.
He said [via Plymouth Live]: “I will have a meeting with the board to see where we are at. I think that’s really important to see exactly what we can do in January.
“At the minute I can’t guarantee anything on any players, but once I get the confirmation of exactly what we can do I will know where we stand on them two, and potential players coming in.
“We have already had early meetings but I want to finalise it, and then that obviously influences the decision with Andre, and Marko, and players coming in.”
Wayne Rooney set to be backed by Plymouth and their fans
Earlier this month, it seemed almost certain that a new manager would take charge by Christmas due to poor results.
While results haven’t improved significantly, performances have shown enough promise to give some supporters hope, particularly after the narrow loss to league leaders Sheffield United.
This follows hints from Rooney that he will be given time to turn things around, alongside the recent addition of Mike Phelan to his staff.
The Pilgrims remain in the relegation zone, sitting just two points off the bottom of the table.

However, with a game in hand over Hull City and Portsmouth, who sit either side of them in the standings, a win could prove vital to their survival hopes.
Rooney has also faced scrutiny off the pitch after headlines emerged about him cancelling a supposed meet-and-greet event that he was never scheduled to attend.
He’ll be hoping supporters focus on the latest updates instead and continue backing him, as he’ll need their support during these difficult times.
Much of their season’s trajectory could depend on the January budget. The club has already shown faith in Rooney by appointing Phelan, hinting at further backing in the near future.
His team has managed just one win in their last 10 matches and will be desperate to turn things around against Middlesbrough on December 21.
In other news, Plymouth fans weren’t happy with the performance against Swansea.
