Wayne Rooney, Liam Delap respond to Cole Palmer amid ‘Chelsea reprimand’ claim
Cole Palmer’s latest update on social media caught the attention of Wayne Rooney and several Chelsea teammates.
The 23-year-old is one of the brightest players at Enzo Maresca‘s disposal, notching 40 goals and 26 assists over the last two campaigns since his £42.5million move from Man City [BBC Sport].
It is no coincidence that the Blues’ Premier League form took a significant hit last season as Palmer’s performances on the pitch also dropped, but he is trying to regain his spark over in America.
Maresca’s side have reached the Club World Cup quarter-finals after beating Benfica, though Palmer’s yellow card for hitting out sparked claims from Keith Hackett that the player could face a reprimand from the club.
There are no doubts over the player’s abilities on the pitch, but with 17 yellow cards in just two seasons with the Blues, concerns are emerging about how he conducts himself during the 90 minutes.
Cole Palmer catches the attention of Premier League legend
Taking to Instagram (3 July), Palmer, in partnership with Nike, wrote: “Here to help… Phone +44-800-SKINNED today, showing off the company’s new release of Total 90s.
Chelsea teammates, Delap, Christopher Nkunku, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Omari Kellyman all liked the post, being joined by Arsenal-linked star playmaker Eberechi Eze and Man United legend Rooney.
Chelsea take significant step towards Club World Cup title
Football Insider verdict
With both feet planted in the quarter-finals and Pep Guardiola‘s Man City side now knocked out, there is a huge chance for Chelsea to add another piece of silverware to the trophy cabinet.
Supporters are expecting even more success from their team next season after claiming Champions League qualification while also beating Real Betis to the Europa Conference League title.
The Club World Cup has sparked concerns over the 2026 World Cup, especially after Maresca ripped into the adverse weather conditions over in America.

Maresca could face backlash over his comments, with Hackett suggesting he could have a visit from FIFA executives, but the Italian figure has certainly raised some good points over at the Club World Cup.
FIFA are unlikely to make changes ahead of the 2026 World Cup now, and the Blues will only continue to focus on their tournament, next facing Palmeiras on Saturday, 5 July.
That would set them up with a semi-final clash with either Fluminense or Al Hilal, with PSG, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund all on the opposite side of the draw.
