Wayne Rooney reveals why Arsenal are suddenly ‘nervous’ after development

Arsenal have looked supreme for the vast majority of this season but some nerves could now be creeping in according to Wayne Rooney.

The Gunners had conceded just three times in the Premier League before this weekend, and were being tipped to challenge Chelsea’s defensive record.

However, Arsenal drew 2-2 with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday (8 November), ending their 10-game winning streak.

Brian Brobbey grabbed a last-minute equaliser for the Black Cats, who became the first team to score two goals past Mikel Arteta’s side this term.

Wayne Rooney reveals Arsenal doubts

After Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Liverpool, Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League has been cut to just four points.

Goals from Erling Haaland, Nico Gonzalez and Jeremy Doku saw Pep Guardiola’s side cruise to an emphatic win over the champions.

City are on 22 points after 11 games, and have won their last four matches in all competitions.

Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show, the former Manchester United striker insisted that the Gunners will now be feeling the pressure.

“Arsenal, after dropping points, will be looking over their shoulder. Seeing City with Pep Guardiola behind them, Arsenal will be getting a little bit nervous, especially seeing the way that City are playing.”

Arsenal will be desperate to get over the line

After finishing second in each of the last three seasons, this looked to be the campaign where Arsenal and Arteta were finally going to get over the line in the Premier League.

However, the pressure is now well and truly on the north London side, with Man City looking back somewhere near their very best.

Guardiola’s side have such experience winning Premier League titles, and with the likes of Doku hitting top form, will fancy their chances of closing the gap to Arsenal.

There is no doubt that the Gunners still hold all the cards, with the four-point lead as well as incredible defensive stability, but there is a long way to go.

Arsenal are desperate to secure their first Premier League crown in 21 years, but with City in touching distance, the title race is still very much in the balance.
