Belgium manager Roberto Martinez has stated that Newcastle United midfielder Kenedy is the “signing of the season” on Sky Sports.
The former Wigan Athletic and Everton manager made the revelation to Chris Kamara and Ben Shepherd on Sky Sports’ Goals on Sunday programme (01/04, 11am).
Chelsea’s loanee made the switch to the north east in January after struggling for first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge and has been a revelation under Rafael Benitez.
In the seven appearances the 22-year-old has made since his loan move, the Brazilian has scored twice and added one assist.
However it has been his all-round play that has excited the supporters, which has clearly not gone unnoticed by the Belgium manager.
Football Insider verdict:
Kenedy is the signing of the season as far as Newcastle are concerned. Before his arrival at the club, the Magpies were struggling in front of goal and their lack of threat going forward was costing them points as they teetered on the cusp of the relegation zone. The midfielder has given Newcastle another dimension in attack and without him in the side, the club could potentially be one of the three to face the drop. As it is, Benitez’s side look almost certain to remain in the Premier League for another season and they must do all they can to make Kenedy’s move a permanent one.
