'We have some names' - Benitez delivers mouthwatering Newcastle transfer update

By Abigail Withey

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has revealed that he has “some names and some targets” which he hopes to secure before deadline day.

Newcastle had a difficult return to the Premier League after losing their opening two matches to Tottenham and Huddersfield, which left both the fans and squad feeling deflated.

However, the Magpies received a boost after securing their first three points of the competition after their 3-0 victory over West Ham where new signing Joselu secured his debut goal for the club.

The Newcastle boss has now told in a mouthwatering transfer update that he isn’t finished in the window and has a number of payers on his radar before Thursday evening’s deadline.

“We have an idea of what we need and what we want. We have some names and we have some targets and we are trying to do that business,” the Newcastle boss said, as quoted by the Chronicle.

“It doesn’t change the situation too much. Maybe any club will have a player available that you are not expecting to come on to the market.

“At the moment we know what we need and what we can get but it [the result] won’t change too much.”

Joselu was just one of five permanent additions this summer as Jacob Murphy joined from Norwich City, Florian Lejeune from Eibar, Javier Manquillo from Atletico Madrid and Christian Atsu joined from Chelsea after a loan spell with the Magpies.

Benitez has vented his frustrations throughout the duration of the transfer window as he missed out on a number of key signings and was restricted with budget issues.

With a win under their belt Newcastle look ahead to their next top flight against Swansea City after the international break.
