Wenham slams Tottenham fans after they fire 'very harsh abuse' at Paratici

Fabio Paratici bears no blame for Nuno Espirito Santo’s ill-fated spell as Tottenham manager.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Paratici, 49, was targetted on social media by some Tottenham fans after last weekend’s 3-0 loss to Manchester United.

On Twitter, #ParaticiOUT was included alongside the more regular hashtags such as #LevyOUT and #ENICOUT.

The Italian joined Spurs as their new director of football in June 2020 and took overall responsibility for transfers.

On 8 June, Football Insider revealed Paratici was heavily involved in Spurs hunt for Jose Mourinho’s replacement.

As a result, Nuno’s poor spell lead to anger towards the club chief but Wenham insists this “abuse” is unfair.

“I saw there was some abuse aimed at Paratici,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I have to say, I really don’t get that. To be honest, I think that is really unfair.

“Paratici signed us Romero, who has probably been our best player this season.

“Let’s give him some time, come on guys, really? It’s very harsh to blame him for anything that has happened this season.

“I’ve been very impressed with his work generally but especially with how he has conducted himself in interviews.

“People say that Nuno was Paratici’s man. I think Paratici only picked Nuno over Paulo Fonseca, we were down to eighth or ninth choice by then.

“I think Conte is his real choice and I’m sure he will be delighted to get that over the line.”

Antonio Conte was announced as Nuno’s successor on Tuesday.

His first game as Spurs boss is against Vitesse on Thursday.
