Wenham ‘taken aback’ by ‘strange’ Conte comments about Tottenham in Italy
Antonio Conte may have been playing to the gallery of Tottenham fans in recent interviews.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Speaking to Gazzetta on 20 November, Conte admitted Tottenham’s new stadium and facilities left him “speechless”.
He also claimed the facilities were “the best I have ever seen” as he explained why he took the Spurs job.
However, Wenham insists he was taken aback by these quotes as Conte has previously visited Tottenham’s training ground.
Wenham also claimed Daniel Levy will be delighted with the comments.
“Conte has actually been there before,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I’m taken aback a little bit by those comments. He had been over with Italy so he was aware of the facilities it seemed a little bit strange.
“He’s doing his part to boost the club and there is that bit of playing up to the fans as well.
“I’m sure the quotes will have gone down well with Levy and some of the other chiefs.
“But as Pochettino used to say, we have the house, we need the furniture.
“We need to deliver on the pitch and start pushing for some trophies.”
A much-changed Tottenham side lost 2-1 to NS Mura on Thursday night as Conte suffered his first defeat as Spurs boss.
His side are next in action against Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon.
