Wesley Fofana sends message to new Chelsea sensation Mathis Amougou

Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana took to social media to welcome new teammate Mathis Amougou to the Premier League club.

The 19-year-old joined Enzo Maresca’s side from Saint-Etienne on transfer deadline day for a reported £12million fee, signing a massive eight-year deal.

Amougou will remain in West London for the rest of the season but his long-term future will be “revisited” in the summer, with a loan move to sister club Strasbourg said to be likely.

Fellow wonderkid Andrey Santos is currently on loan at Strasbourg but he may not be there for much longer after the latest BBC update suggesting he has “outgrown” the French club.

Amougou had only just broken into the Saint-Etienne first team before making the move to Chelsea, starting seven of his 17 games across all competitions, scoring zero goals, and providing zero assists in his 857 minutes of action.

Fofana, 24, had been a key player for Chelsea before his most recent injury setback, starting all 12 of his games across all competitions and failing to provide a goal contribution in his 1017 minutes on the field.

The centre-back picked up a serious hamstring injury in the 3-0 Premier League win over Aston Villa earlier in the season and is unlikely to feature again this season.

Football Insider revealed (February 5) that one of Chelsea’s French contingent has been ‘earmarked’ for a summer transfer.

Chelsea earned a scrappy 2-1 Premier League win over West Ham on Monday (February 3), seeing them return to the top four.
