Wesley Fofana shares new Romeo Lavia and Chelsea updates after deleting Blues evidence from Instagram
Wesley Fofana has quelled concerns that he is unhappy at Chelsea after deleting all evidence of the club on his Instagram by sharing new positive updates on the social media site.
Fofana has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge over the last three years since an initial £70million [Sky Sports] move from Leicester City in 2022.
The French centre-back has had a torrid time with injuries that saw him miss large parts of his first season at the club and last term, as well as the whole of the 2023/24 campaign inbetween.
Former scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in May that Chelsea were planning to accept offers for Fofana this summer, with Enzo Maresca happy to let him leave amid interest from numerous Saudi Pro League sides.
Fofana deleted all trace of Chelsea from his Instagram page on Wednesday (20 August), leading many to believe that an exit was imminent, but he has now subdued such rumours by taking to the site to post about the club once again.

Wesley Fofana posts about Chelsea and jokes with Romeo Lavia on Instagram
Fofana was kept on the bench for Chelsea’s opening game of the new season against Crystal Palace on Sunday (17 August), but Maresca gave him some encouragement afterwards by insisting that he is in his plans for the campaign ahead, saying: “For the next one, we can use Wes for some minutes.”

It therefore came as a shock to many Blues fans to see him sever all ties with them on Instagram, but he has now restored relations by posting a series pictures relating to the club to his Instagram story on Wednesday (20 August).

Fofana reposted a picture of him with a fan in his Chelsea training kit, while he joked with teammate Romeo Lavia and compared him to a WWE wrestler by saying: “(Romeo Lavia) aka R-Truth,” with numerous laughing emojis, then also posted a photo of him in training at Cobham alongside the caption: “Focus on Friday,” with a full battery emoji.

Chelsea need to keep Wesley Fofana amid centre-back worries
Football Insider verdict
Maresca was forced to start youngster Josh Acheampong alongside Trevoh Chalobah against Palace, with Levi Colwill recently sidelined with an ACL injury, while Fofana is still returning from a lengthy layoff and Tosin Adarabioyo was ruled out with a muscle problem.
Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi each look set to leave the club, while Renato Veiga is closing in on a move to Villarreal [BBC], and so the Blues boss needs all the help he can get at centre-back right now.

Fofana has flopped at Chelsea due to his constant injury worries, but he will still be a decent player when he is fit and still has lots of room to improve at just 24-years-old.
Maresca wants Chelsea to sign a new centre-back this summer to add to his options [Sky Sports], but while that does seem unlikely, it also seems pretty improbable that they let the Frenchman depart anytime soon to further lessen his options.
